In Search of Open Access. Academic Journals and New Digital Formats
The Economics and Politics of “Open Access”: Journals in the Digital Age
By Guillaume Calafat, Éric MonnetEnglish
This article aims to question the ways academic journals are financed and put together in the digital age. First, it deals with the cost of each volume and article, based on the authors’ experience on the editorial board of the French journal of social sciences, Tracés. It then attempts to delineate several forms of access to online articles and reviews. Finally, it discusses the new formats and editorial changes that “open access” could entail in the years to come, inviting academic journal editors to rethink the relationship between hard copy and digital versions.
