Through the Bibliothèque de philosophie scientifique, started in 1902, the popular but not highly respected publisher Ernest Flammarion anticipated a symbolic benefit. As the public reception of this scientific editorial series demonstrates, as well as the place it took within the firm, his hopes were fulfilled.
