English

Family consciousness implies a relationship throughout time and space. The of Leclerc family of Lesseville, which descended from a merchant, who became Secrétaire du Roi, was followed by seven generations, dating from the end of the sixteenth century through the eighteenth century. The transfer of their material and symbolic heritage, both in the French countryside of Vexin and in Paris testifies to the family’s dual involvement in rural and city life. Their matrimonial choices played a part in the geographical relocation of certain lines of descendants (in particular in Le Perche countryside and on the Paris Left Bank) and their career choices throughout the descendency made the family an example of la noblesse de robe which benefitted from an enduring social ascendance.
