In the mid-1750’s, wallpaper was one of the latest decorative options made available to Parisians, and some manufacturers soon established their business in the faubourg Saint-Antoine. An analysis of some of the best documented firms sheds light on the reasons for choosing such a location. First of all, the entrepreneurs found the space needed for their activity; second, the area provided workers in abundance; and finally, its privileged status guaranteed more freedom of action.
